Terms of service

Last updated 21 May 2026

Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and the small team that builds and runs Share the Mental Load (“we” and “us”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. They work alongside our Privacy page, which explains how we handle your data.

Who can use the service

Share the Mental Load is a tool for adults running a household together. You must be at least 18 to use it. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity that happens under it.

Your account and your couple

The app is built for two people. One partner creates the home and invites the other; once paired, you form a couple and share the same deck, projects and history. Both partners can see and change shared content — that is the point of the product. Be considerate of each other in what you create and change.

Early release

Share the Mental Load is offered as an early-release product. The features described across this site are real and working, but the product is young:

  • You may encounter rough edges, and some details will change.
  • The service is provided free of charge while in early release.
  • If we introduce a charge in future, it will be modest and clearly communicated in advance — never applied by surprise.

Acceptable use

We ask you to use the service fairly and lawfully. In particular, please do not:

  • Use the service for anything unlawful, or to harm or harass another person.
  • Attempt to access another couple’s data, or to disrupt, probe, or overload the service.
  • Copy, resell, or attempt to reverse-engineer the app, except where the law expressly allows it.

If an account is used in a way that breaks these terms, we may suspend or close it.

Your content

The content you and your partner create — your cards, tasks, projects and notes — belongs to you. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store, process and display it so the service can work for you. We do not claim ownership of it, and, as set out in our Privacy page, we never use it to train AI models.

The AI assistant

The app includes an AI assistant that can answer questions and carry out actions for you. It is a supplement, never a gate: everything it can do is also available to you directly, with a plain button. AI output can occasionally be wrong, so please review anything important. If the assistant is slow or unavailable, the rest of the app continues to work.

Availability

We work to keep the service reliable, but we cannot promise it will be available without interruption. From time to time we may need to perform maintenance, update features, or pause parts of the service.

Ending your use

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from within the app, as described in our Privacy page. We may suspend or end access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken. Because a couple is shared, the app explains clearly what happens to shared content before any account is deleted.

Liability

Share the Mental Load is a tool to help you organise shared responsibilities; it does not replace your own judgement, and we are not responsible for decisions you make using it. To the extent the law allows, the service is provided “as is” while in early release, and our liability to you is limited accordingly. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under the law that cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product grows. If a change materially affects you, we will let you know within the app before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page always shows when it was last revised.

Contact us
